Abstract

Background. The conscription in the XIX century was an important element of Russian daily routine, and therefore it is topical for Russian social and military historical researches of the period. At various stages of development the conscription has different levels of historiographical elaboration. The purpose of this article is to analyze historiographical trends and recent developments in the study of the topic.
Materials and methods. The article is based on the studies of Russian historians, who researched the conscription directly or indirectly. In addition to the scientific methods of research, the methodology included the comparative-historical method, which allows to analyze historiographical material in the context of origin and development of approaches to the study of conscription.
Results. The author studied the historiography of recruit conscription relating to the whole period of research on the subject matter. The researcher determined subject dynamics of studies on conscriptio  historiography. The prospects of studying the conscription in Russia in the XIX century were revealed as well.
Conclusions. The analysis of Russian historiography on the conscription allows to conclude that Russian historical science has developed two approaches to the study of the topic. This is the state policy of mobilization to the military-historical point of view and one of the most difficult and problematic forms of interaction between the state and society in the context of social history. The use of modern methodological and historiographical approaches and the expansion of the research geography is the prospect for further development of the problem.
